Transfers & Contract Negotiations
Advises Saudi Pro League clubs on the negotiation and drafting of player and head coach employment agreements at the highest end of the domestic and international market. Mr. Muñoz advised a Saudi Pro League club on the negotiation and drafting of a player’s employment agreement concluded in connection with a transfer valued at approximately 65,000,000 EUR, the work covering remuneration, sign-on arrangements, performance bonuses, ancillary benefits, and regulatory compliance, with the agreement completed within the applicable registration period. He further advised a Saudi Pro League club on the negotiation and drafting of a player’s employment agreement and the related image rights arrangements valued at approximately 300,000,000 USD, being among the highest-value player employment agreements concluded in professional football. In addition, he advised a Saudi Pro League club on the negotiation and drafting of a head coach’s employment agreement carrying a guaranteed value of approximately 32,000,000 USD, and saw the appointment through to completion.
FIFA & CAS Litigation
Represented a Saudi Pro League club in CAS arbitration concerning intermediary commission claims exceeding 1,350,000 EUR and arising from two international player transfers, negotiating confidential settlements that reduced the client’s financial exposure by 242,500 EUR, excluding interest, costs, and legal fees. Mr. Muñoz also represented a professional footballer before the FIFA Football Tribunal (Dispute Resolution Chamber) in an employment dispute brought against a Saudi football club, obtaining an award exceeding 1,500,000 USD together with the dismissal of the club’s counterclaim. In a separate matter, he represented a professional football club in CAS proceedings concerning outstanding legal fees claimed at 172,500 USD and advised the client throughout the settlement negotiations, reducing its liability to 110,000 USD and achieving a saving of approximately 36%.
SAFF Disputes
Acts for professional football clubs on both sides of training compensation proceedings before the SAFF Dispute Resolution Chamber. Acting for the respondent club in a claim of 315,000 SAR, Mr. Muñoz prepared the statement of defence and advanced arguments for the application of the pro rata calculation under the applicable regulations, supporting a reduction of the claimant’s asserted entitlement to 219,863.02 SAR, with the decision presently pending. Acting for claimant clubs, he prepared the final default notices and statements of claim in domestic training compensation matters valued at 406,506.86 SAR, 717,246.58 SAR, and 219,534.25 SAR respectively, each of which remains ongoing before the SAFF Dispute Resolution Chamber.
Regulatory & Disciplinary Proceedings
Prepared the written defence and advised a Saudi Pro League club in proceedings before the SAFF Disciplinary Committee arising from the dismissal of the club’s head coach for violent conduct, securing a one-match suspension, less than the standard two-match suspension prescribed for violent conduct under the SAFF Disciplinary and Ethics Regulations. Mr. Muñoz prepared the written defence and advised a Saudi Pro League club in disciplinary proceedings arising from alleged supporter misconduct, securing a decision imposing no disciplinary sanction on the club, and acted in further proceedings before the same committee concerning alleged misconduct by senior club officials during a domestic cup competition, in which no disciplinary sanctions were imposed on the officials. He also prepared the written submissions and advised a Saudi Pro League club in proceedings before the Saudi Pro League Compliance Committee concerning alleged operational and matchday compliance breaches, securing the dismissal of all allegations without sanction. He currently represents a professional boxer before the Saudi Anti-Doping Committee, with representation extending to the World Anti-Doping Agency (“WADA”) and CAS if required, those proceedings being ongoing.
